The first FF4 beta
· workbench
The first Final Fantasy IV beta is out, v1.0.0b0, a zip with the IPS patch and a LISEZMOI laid out like a Terminus readme, and it goes on your own unheadered Japanese ROM. You can finish the game, but there are surely typos and bugs left, and they go in the issues with the version, that shows on the New Game menu, where it happens in the game and if possible a screenshot or a save.
The script is Hrothgar SCRB's, and I went through it against the Japanese, bank by bank. Cutting what the old English J2e translation had invented, I also got back what it had skipped, the Elder's speech on Mount Ordeals, FuSoYa's light and shadow, the farewells of Golbez and Cain, bits of the ending, and Rosa's theme comes back with other tracks the English version had lost.
In the fixes there are the battle bugs betaplayer found, and two bugs that were already in the original game and froze the battle, a monster paralysed, asleep or petrified after it chose a spell, and a monster with nothing planned in its script. The full list of changes is in the release notes.
